Purple Stuff Podcast: The Great Pumpkin and Garfield’s Halloween Adventure!

As the Halloween season enters the home stretch, The Purple Stuff Podcast is back with a new episode that will surely bring Halloween memories flooding back. In our new episode, Matt from Dinosaur Dracula and I break down the fine details of the original broadcast of Garfield’s Halloween Adventure from October 1985. Although it was the first airing of Garf’s special, it also served as a lead-in to the annual tradition It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  Not only do we get into the specials themselves, but also the commercials that aired during the breaks.

This is the perfect time capsule to October 1985. Considering these are two of the most iconic animated Halloween specials ever, it doesn’t get much more festive for Halloween than this. Join us to hear about Linus’ badassery, Binky’s workout regimen, a hot theme song for sandy cereal, and a TRU commercial that’s pure Halloween eye candy. This is a fun one and we hope you enjoy it. You can check it out wherever you listen to podcasts, i.e Spotify, Apple Podcasts etc. Thanks for being a part of the spooky season with us and have a Happy Halloween!

Purple Stuff Podcast: Shocktober’s Friday the 13th IV Presentation!

You may have a photograph or a home video taken with the gargantuan family camcorder that really takes you back to a moment in time. For the Purple Stuff Podcast, we were bestowed with a tape, a recording of a WPIX Shocktober broadcast from October 1992. Specifically, Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter was on tap for that night. It couldn’t have been a more perfect pairing. Words simply cannot describe how important horror movies on WPIX during Halloween were to both Matt and I. Obviously, Matt has written on the Internet about them for a million years, but I have also worked this angle into many of my Halloween specials as well. You’ve probably heard us on The Purple Stuff Podcast do the whole “Shhhhhhhhocktober” stinger many times, but in our latest episode we give it the proper tribute treatment it deserves.

We have a super fun and nostalgic episode for you in this time of quarantine. Hopefully you’ll join us and take your mind off of all the craziness going on in the world right now. It’s the perfect getaway for your mind. Not only will you hear us capture what WPIX and their Halloween inspired marathon meant to us, but we also dig in to one of our favorite installments in the Friday the 13th franchise! Friday the 13th IV The Final Chapter was always my favorite for so many reasons which I delve into on the show. I can’t forget to mention that one of the coolest aspects of this tape we received had all of the commercial breaks in tact. This means we get a chance to look back on Shocktober promos, commercials, and public service announcements!

We really had a blast on this trip back to that night. An evening where we were both in our respective homes settled in anticipating the big day, Halloween, and watching horror movies on the channel that had it all. Listen to us attempt to capture just how important this all was to us! Below you can watch a video Matt compiled that includes footage and clips from the video we are discussing if you would like to watch for reference during the pod!

Purple Stuff Podcast: Universal Monsters!

Halloween is here! The season has flown by unusually fast this year. If you’re like me, you’re savoring every last bit of it. To assist with that, The Purple Stuff Podcast is back with a new episode for you. We hope you will check it out as you’re making final tweaks to your costumes, or just hanging with your friends having some Pumpkin beer. Our subject this time around is one that permeates pop culture this time of year: The Universal Monsters!

You’d be hard pressed to find a horror or Halloween fan who doesn’t have at least a small portion of their heart dedicated to one of the classic roster of Universal Monsters. Even if you’ve never seen any of the original films, you likely have an affinity for Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Bride of Frankenstein, The Creature, and The Invisible Man. Their likenesses have been with us our whole lives via movies, advertising, toys, and cartoons. Halloween is always better when they’re around in some fashion.

This episode of The Purple Stuff Podcast is dedicated to various incarnations of these characters. Par for the course, you won’t be hearing the typical entries from us. Matt from Dino Drac and I bring up some of our favorite instances of these horror icons that don’t get a lot of attention. It’s a fun one as we discuss breakfast cereal, action figures, and music videos. Hope this helps enhance your Halloween season! It’s not over yet Bay-bay!

As always, thank you for your continued support! We wouldn’t be able to do this without you. Thank you for reading, listening, and watching our exploits. If you would like to support the show, we’re on Patreon! Each month we record a special bonus show for our Patronies there. Other than that, have you watched The Sexy Armpit Halloween Special yet? If not, be sure to check that out after you hear the podcast!

The Halloween Special 2019 Is HERE!

I usually don’t think it’s necessary to go into a whole explanation of what The Halloween Special is all about, so I will let it speak for itself. What I can tell you is that, as always, we had fun making this and I think it really shows. The work that I put into it on a personal front usually brings me to the brink of death, but in the end it’s all worth it. I get 3 or 4 hours of sleep for about a month straight due to late night editing and filming pick up shots and b-roll. Do I take this too seriously? Maybe, but it’s what I love. It’s not like I’m making the Shining, but it’s nice to have dreams.

I pushed really hard to make this one move quicker and have a run time that was roughly in line with a TV sitcom episode. I would love to talk about my inspirations but a few of them would be spoilery. One of them isn’t though and that’s the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It’s NOTHING like that and nowhere near that epic level, but I always aspire to those heights. This was more of a nostalgic type of fun party romp and I hope you have fun watching it. Happy Halloween and there is a quite a bit more to come this season between more videos from me AND also coming to you is more Purple Stuff Podcast with me and Dino Drac! Thanks to everyone who helped me make this Special happen. From the title intro to the music to the cast, it’s always a labor of love. If you haven’t yet seen what brought us to the party, go back and watch the previous 7 installments! They’re all there in a neat little playlist.

What makes the Halloween season special is ambiance. Think of it as a bubbling cauldron, to concoct your brew you have to customize your ingredients. Some people don’t fathom how into Halloween I am, but it just seems like they aren’t doing much to enhance their season. To easily stimulate the feels of the season, one must accentuate their own personal traditions.

There are those who like to burn pumpkin candles, hang orange, green and purple string lights inside, and watch a horror movie each night of October. It can be as simple or as intricate as you desire. Many of our friends, readers, and listeners come up with amazing Mood Tables inspired by Dinosaur Dracula. This originated as a table Matt made that featured items that gave him the Halloween feeling. For me, a huge part of the season for as long as I can remember is the TUNES!

Such an easy way to add to the ambiance of your Halloween celebration is to make a spooky playlist. Matt and I have been presenting ours on The Purple Stuff Podcast for several years now and it’s one of the most fun shows we do. In this episode, we’ve got a whole new playlist for you and we hope it adds to your Halloween ambiance. Check it out on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, and wherever else you listen to podcasts. If you have a moment, leave us a positive review on iTunes, it would be very much appreciated. Purple Stuff Podcast: EVIL CLOWNS!

The Halloween Season has officially begun! This year, stores actually started putting candy and decorations out early, which I take as a good sign. It may not feel like the Halloween season 100% yet, but we are IN IT, so let’s get cracking. The Purple Stuff Podcast brings to you an episode all about EVIL CLOWNS! Whether they are dopey, fun, or sad, many of them are known to be scary A F, which lead many of you to grow up with an aversion to these face painted pranksters. For decades, they’ve been a prominent part of horror movie culture having their own sub-genre. And very likely, they occupy the part of your brain that stores nightmare fuel that leaks out while you are sleeping. In this new episode, me and Matt from Dino Drac are presenting you with our list of scary clowns in movies, TV and all around pop culture. From Pennywise to Poltergeist to Power Rangers we’ve got some good ones for you! Tune in via your favorite podcast app and if you would like to help support the show consider leaving us positive feedback on iTunes or any of the podcast apps. Purple Stuff Podcast: WITCHES!!!

Monsters and ghosts get talked about the most. Many would say that demons and ghouls are just as cool. What about the witches? Whether you prefer the historical lore of the witch trials or the more macabre evil queens of magic, witches have provided us with so much spooky entertainment. For people like us, witches are also a huge aspect of our favorite season of the year. Halloween and witches are basically synonymous, but almost to the point where we’re desensitized to them. In the new episode of the Purple Stuff Podcast, we’re commending our favorite witches from pop culture despite how despicable their acts may be…or their faces!

Consider the massive amount of notorious witches, we literally had to conjure up a spell to settle on 5 selections each. Think about it for a sec an you’ll be able to name at least 10 cool witches that you have an affinity for. In this show Matt and I chose witches we adore from movies (made for cable and theatrical), and commercials. Even though we had to leave so many on the table, we’re confident that you will enjoy hearing about the likes of Charal and a certain green ruler of Winkie Country.  We also delve into the enchanting ways of the hideously horny Sarah Sanderson and the snoring sorcerer herself, Helena Markos!

This weekend, invite your coven, kindle up your cauldron, and hole up in your crib for a listen to this new episode! You can listen here or subscribe on your favorite podcast app. If you are interested in supporting our show you can leave us a positive 5 star review on iTunes OR head over to our Patreon page where we present an exclusive monthly bonus show! As always, thank you so much for listening and reading!
