The Purple Stuff Podcast recently turned 5 years old. What’s even more preposterous is that we’ve never done a show on VAMPIRES! Well, here it is folks. More than likely it won’t include the obvious selections that you’d think might get brought up. In this episode Dinosaur Dracula and I have gathered up quite a fiendish list for you. With the Halloween season kicking off, we’re here to help create that spooky atmosphere. You can hear us delve into Draculas and various vampires from all over pop culture, no limits here. This time around we’ve got animation, animatronics, and advertising. It’s all here for you to sink your teeth into! You can listen here or your favorite podcast app. As always, thank you so much for listening and reading. If you’d like to support the show, we are on Patreon where we present a monthly bonus show!
The Purple Stuff Podcast returns with a new episode! In this one, we dissect a VHS recording of an episode of Friday the 13th: The Series from 1988. Dinosaur Dracula and I get into detail about the episode as well as many of the commercials that aired during the broadcast that night. There was some crazy stuff that went on in this ep and the commercials sandwiched in between will either bring you fondly back in time or make you seriously wonder about the ad wizards who made them. So let me run this down, we talk about Friday the 13th the Series, 7Up Gold, Roger Rabbit, a sports instructional video for a sport that I don’t even play, and a couple of defunct overpriced 1-900 HOTLINES! It’s a total smorgasbord. You might recall, we did a show like this previously focused on a VHS tape of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter so check that one out if you haven’t yet. Thank you for listening and reading. As always, your support is very much appreciated and if you would like to support the podcast please visit us on Patreon.com/PurpleStuff
The latest episode of The Purple Stuff Podcast has arrived! In this show Dino Drac and I talk about CREEPY COMMERCIALS! It’s surprising to think that something we as a society tried to avoid like the plague by either running to the kitchen for a snack or fast forwarding the breaks during a show we taped, can be so chock full of nostalgia. As much as we tried to tune out commercials we couldn’t escape them and that’s why they’re so embedded in our brains. Whether the terrifying imagery was burned into our eyes or the jingle was memorable, commercials and public service announcements deserve their own episode on The Purple Stuff Podcast. Specifically, we’re discussing ads that were either subtly horrifying for us when we were young or traditionally spooky in some way. The ads we bring up include everything from Elvira partying it up in Norman Bate’s house, Vincent Price and luxurious red velvet bound books, and a haunted forest of fruit snacks, so you can’t go wrong here! Here’s a playlist of the commercials we talk about it if you would like to listen and watch at the same time, but be careful your brain doesn’t explode! You may have a photograph or a home video taken with the gargantuan family camcorder that really takes you back to a moment in time. For the Purple Stuff Podcast, we were bestowed with a tape, a recording of a WPIX Shocktober broadcast from October 1992. Specifically, Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter was on tap for that night. It couldn’t have been a more perfect pairing. Words simply cannot describe how important horror movies on WPIX during Halloween were to both Matt and I. Obviously, Matt has written on the Internet about them for a million years, but I have also worked this angle into many of my Halloween specials as well. You’ve probably heard us on The Purple Stuff Podcast do the whole “Shhhhhhhhocktober” stinger many times, but in our latest episode we give it the proper tribute treatment it deserves.
We have a super fun and nostalgic episode for you in this time of quarantine. Hopefully you’ll join us and take your mind off of all the craziness going on in the world right now. It’s the perfect getaway for your mind. Not only will you hear us capture what WPIX and their Halloween inspired marathon meant to us, but we also dig in to one of our favorite installments in the Friday the 13th franchise! Friday the 13th IV The Final Chapter was always my favorite for so many reasons which I delve into on the show. I can’t forget to mention that one of the coolest aspects of this tape we received had all of the commercial breaks in tact. This means we get a chance to look back on Shocktober promos, commercials, and public service announcements!
We really had a blast on this trip back to that night. An evening where we were both in our respective homes settled in anticipating the big day, Halloween, and watching horror movies on the channel that had it all. Listen to us attempt to capture just how important this all was to us! Below you can watch a video Matt compiled that includes footage and clips from the video we are discussing if you would like to watch for reference during the pod!

We had some technical glitches hit us recently but The Purple Stuff Podcast has returned! In our new episode Matt and I explore some of our favorite robots from various facets of pop culture. At first I didn’t realize how many robots I had an affinity for. As usual with us, we leaned more to the obscure than the obvious choices which made it more fun. In this ep, we touch on a BIG animated ’80s bot, a mechanical murderer loose in the mall, a freaky Frankenstein friend, and many more. Take a listen on your usual podcast app! I feel ridiculous typing here every so often that the time flies by so fast. Whenever I actually do post, it certainly feels like we’re in light speed. Can you believe that this is the 5th installment of The Purple Stuff Podcast’s Christmas Songs show? It’s the holiday season and everyone is bracing themselves for that high level of family interaction, those often awkward gift situations, and way more food that any normal human being should be ingesting. All I can say is thank God for Tequila 🙂
Naturally, I’m half joking. I do enjoy the most wonderful time of the year, although with each year that passes, the holidays aren’t the holidays without the TUNES! To me, music makes the holidays. You’re well familiar with my love for Halloween music hence the annual Spooky Songs shows that Dinosaur Dracula and I do. Think about it though, can you really picture a wonderful December day close to the 25th where you’re in an ugly Christmas sweater sipping egg nog from a Marty Moose mug and you DON’T have imaginary eight notes and quarter notes from Christmas songs subtly dancing on air around the room?
This year we delve even deeper into our playlists. We’re presenting 10 songs that deserve some airplay on your bluetooth speaker this year. You’ll hear everything from Glow Worm Wackyness to Home Alone 2 hilarity on this episode. There’s no better week to listen to our Christmas songs show than right now!
Thank you for listening to the podcast and coming to this website. We truly appreciate your support! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family! We look forward to more fun in 2020. Also, a very special thank you to all of our PATRONIES! You guys are the absolute best! *If you are interested in supporting the show you can get a monthly bonus show at Patreon.com/PurpleStuff
Halloween is here! The season has flown by unusually fast this year. If you’re like me, you’re savoring every last bit of it. To assist with that, The Purple Stuff Podcast is back with a new episode for you. We hope you will check it out as you’re making final tweaks to your costumes, or just hanging with your friends having some Pumpkin beer. Our subject this time around is one that permeates pop culture this time of year: The Universal Monsters!
You’d be hard pressed to find a horror or Halloween fan who doesn’t have at least a small portion of their heart dedicated to one of the classic roster of Universal Monsters. Even if you’ve never seen any of the original films, you likely have an affinity for Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Bride of Frankenstein, The Creature, and The Invisible Man. Their likenesses have been with us our whole lives via movies, advertising, toys, and cartoons. Halloween is always better when they’re around in some fashion.
This episode of The Purple Stuff Podcast is dedicated to various incarnations of these characters. Par for the course, you won’t be hearing the typical entries from us. Matt from Dino Drac and I bring up some of our favorite instances of these horror icons that don’t get a lot of attention. It’s a fun one as we discuss breakfast cereal, action figures, and music videos. Hope this helps enhance your Halloween season! It’s not over yet Bay-bay!
As always, thank you for your continued support! We wouldn’t be able to do this without you. Thank you for reading, listening, and watching our exploits. If you would like to support the show, we’re on Patreon! Each month we record a special bonus show for our Patronies there. Other than that, have you watched The Sexy Armpit Halloween Special yet? If not, be sure to check that out after you hear the podcast!
I usually don’t think it’s necessary to go into a whole explanation of what The Halloween Special is all about, so I will let it speak for itself. What I can tell you is that, as always, we had fun making this and I think it really shows. The work that I put into it on a personal front usually brings me to the brink of death, but in the end it’s all worth it. I get 3 or 4 hours of sleep for about a month straight due to late night editing and filming pick up shots and b-roll. Do I take this too seriously? Maybe, but it’s what I love. It’s not like I’m making the Shining, but it’s nice to have dreams.
I pushed really hard to make this one move quicker and have a run time that was roughly in line with a TV sitcom episode. I would love to talk about my inspirations but a few of them would be spoilery. One of them isn’t though and that’s the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It’s NOTHING like that and nowhere near that epic level, but I always aspire to those heights. This was more of a nostalgic type of fun party romp and I hope you have fun watching it. Happy Halloween and there is a quite a bit more to come this season between more videos from me AND also coming to you is more Purple Stuff Podcast with me and Dino Drac! Thanks to everyone who helped me make this Special happen. From the title intro to the music to the cast, it’s always a labor of love. If you haven’t yet seen what brought us to the party, go back and watch the previous 7 installments! They’re all there in a neat little playlist.
