When I think back to when I was a little kid obsessed with MTV, there were always certain videos that would excite the crap out of me. I would be pumped up for days leading up to those Top 100 Videos of All Time countdowns that always seemed to air in the summer. I planned accordingly. I made sure my schedule was cleared, which really just meant that I would forego my typical adventures with my Batman, Star Wars, or Real Ghostbusters action figures. Swimming in the pool was prohibited unless there was a shitty 6 minute video on or an excruciatingly long block of commercials. When my friends or neighbors knocked at my door to ask if I wanted to play kickball down the street, I laughed diabolically in their face. Didn’t they realize the magnitude of this event? It gave me a chance to re-watch all my favorite videos. Back then I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my day.

Let’s see, there was Michael Jackson, Billy Idol, Madonna, Prince, Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister, Poison, Peter Gabriel, The Cars…the list was endless. Since the days of those classic music videos, not only has MTV abandoned music videos altogether, but we’ve also seen the emergence of too many other music video channels. There’s MTV 2, Fuse, VH1 Classic and others. None of which I ever remember to watch due to the fact that I have 900 channels. I JUST WANT MY OLD MTV BACK MUTHATRUCKA!!!

One band has kept it real and has just created a couple of music videos that recall the classic days of MTV and they are The Dirty Pearls. If you haven’t become acquainted with them yet, this is a prime time to jump on board. If MTV still played music videos, these two videos would positively be in heavy rotation.

I was actually part of the filming for “Who’s Coming Back to Who” at Don Hill’s in New York City (RIP), and I’m visible in a few shots throughout the video. Since I won’t make you play Where’s Waldo, here are some of the shots I can be seen in:

The awesome video for their latest track “Static” was filmed with the camera to either the X-Box or the PS3, I can’t remember which one. This video is right up there with the videos for Dire Straits “Money For Nothing” and The White Stripes “Fell in Love With a Girl.”

The Dirty Pearls Video Premiere Party – THIS THURSDAY!

This Thursday the wait is finally over! The Bowery Ballroom in NYC is the place to be on 6/30 when The Dirty Pearls not only perform, but also premiere their brand new video for their new single “Who’s Coming Back to Who.” Also performing live will be the best rock bands New York City has to offer including Star Killer, whose lead singer is NJ-born Jasin Cadic, Panzie, and Sweet Fix. Who’s Going To The Dirty Pearls Video Premiere Party?

After receiving a record amount of entries for any contest ever held here at The Sexy Armpit, one lucky winner will be receiving tickets to see The Dirty Pearls video premiere party at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC! The winning entry was determined by its creative merit, and if it offered that extra oddball flavor that appeals to The Sexy Armpit so much. If you did not win, that doesn’t mean that your entry wasn’t a good one, it just means that the winner went above and beyond to create an extremely insane and dirty entry. The winning entry was coherent and was based on real life events as well.

“Walk This Way” NY Style: The Dirty Pearls and DMC

Occasionally The Sexy Armpit visits New Jersey’s wise ass older brother, New York. I went to check out The Dirty Pearls concert at Webster Hall which was also broadcast live on New York’s Rock station 101.9 WRXP. New York City is not only The Dirty Pearls home, but it’s aura gets them high as they immortalized in their last single “New York City is a Drug.” (They love New York as much as The Sexy Armpit loves Jersey.) That track ended their abbreviated set, but they also ripped through songs from their forthcoming album Whether You Like It or Not including their new single “Who’s Coming Back to Who?” and closed the set with a seismic rendition of The Ramones’ “Do You Remember Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio?”

No question, the highlight of the night came when they invited their much buzzed about “special guest” up on stage to perform with them. Lead singer Tommy London introduced none other than Darryl McDaniels, aka DMC from RUN f’n DMC!!! The crowd went ballistic when they heard the familiar guitar riff from “Walk This Way” as The Dirty Pearls mixed it up and shuffled back and forth on stage with the hip hop legend.

And for those of you who are contending that this post is not related to Jersey in any way – one of RXP’s DJs and hosts of the concert last night was New Jersey native Matt Pinfield, so that counts for something! Oh, and according to the omniscient Wikipedia, DMC currently resides in Wayne, NJ. Maybe The Dirty Pearls could sing “New Jersey is a Drug” for The Sexy Armpit next time they come to Jersey?

The Dirty Pearls LIVE RADIO CONCERT!!!

I give credit to RXP since they are the only station in the local area (besides The Sexy Armpit’s former station 105.5 WDHA) who attempts to showcase independent and unsigned bands. They are also smart enough to capitalize on the incredible rock scene that resides in New York’s lower east side, headed by The Dirty Pearls.

This historic concert will be hosted by RXP DJ’s including New Jersey’s own Matt Pinfield along wtih Leslie Fram, and Rich Russo. If you can’t make it to Webster Hall you can tune into “Anything, Anything 10 O’Clock News Live Edition” at 10:00 PM on 101.9 WRXP or streaming on their website from anywhere in the world!

“Reboot, Rebound…”

You’re probably thinking that this post will compare and contrast the finer points of the Canadian CGI cartoon ReBoot that aired in the mid ’90s with Martin Lawrence’s 2005 theatrical tour de force Rebound. I’ll tell you this: You’re completely f’n wrong! This post will merely serve as an update as to what The Sexy Armpit has been up to as of late.

The lack of posting recently is because there’s been so much cool shit going on. I feel like Michael Cera’s character Evan in Superbad. Through all this welcome craziness, I haven’t had much time to write, but now I’m BACK! I didn’t want to make my little comeback without a new look, so take it all in! Breathe in all the noxious fumes! Ahh yes, “Reboot, Rebound…” not only signifies a new look here at The Sexy Armpit but it’s actually a line from The Dirty Pearls newest single “Who’s Coming Back to Who?” available now on iTunes and Amazon via the link below.

If you’re here reading this post and you still haven’t listened to at least ONE Dirty Pearls track then I’ll give you 30 – 60 seconds to create a new tab in your browser and go listen now. Come right back of course!

You’re still here? That means you’re either already aware of the New York City’s reigning kings of rock and roll, or you are just being an obstinate prick. You won’t regret discovering music from The Dirty Pearls, and you better get used to them because you’ll be hearing a lot more from them in the future and SEEING them too. The Dirty Pearls just wrapped up filming their first official music video for “Who’s Coming Back to Who?” and The Sexy Armpit was on location in NYC to capture behind the scenes footage for the making of the video. You’ll see that very soon, but until then I highly recommend you download the track because it’s so addictive that you’ll want to listen to it a bunch of times in a row.

I can’t reveal many details about the actual video yet, but I can say that the performance aspect has an old school rock and roll feel. Bands like The Beatles The Stones, KISS, AC/DC, and mostly all the great rockers have band members with their own distinct personality and look. The Dirty Pearls are bringing that idea to a new generation and their music and image will appeal to fans young and old.

At the helm directing the video was Jasin Cadic, lead singer of Star Killer and co-writer of the upcoming film The Perfect Age of Rock and Roll. I am hereby crediting Jasin and The Dirty Pearls for resuscitating the long forgotten art of the music video. After you see this video you will recall the days of being fascinated by MTV for hours and hours and all they played was videos. Judging from what I saw on the set, “Who’s Coming Back to Who?” restores hope for a full force comeback of stylish and bombastic music videos. Stay tuned!
